Bugungu Wildlife Reserve is a small reserve protecting an area of savanna and seasonal swamp lying at the base of the Rift Valley Escarpment to the west of Murchison Falls National Park.
The reserve protects a good number of wild animals – significantly over 1200 head of Oribi, 600 Uganda Kobs, and substantial population of leopard, buffalo, warthog, hippo, reedbuck, sitatunga, waterbuck, bushbuck, dik-dik, black and white Colobus monkeys, baboons etc.
Roughly there are 240 brd species that have been recorded in the area including the Abyssinian ground hornbill, shoebill and saddle billed stork.
